Introduction

The Khopra Danda Trek also known as the Khopra Ridge Trek is an excellent alternative to the more popular and crowded Ghorepani trek. This trek offers a little off-the-beaten-path and with great views of the amazing mountain, pastoral villages, and rice fields layered on top of each other, descending into the valley. The route to the Khopra Danda Trek follows a local trail that descends into the valley north of Ghorepani, before ascending another ridge, known as “Khopra Ridge”. It is one of the best short treks in Nepal that is untouched or less crowded compared to other treks. This trek takes you to the elevation of 3660 m at Khopra Danda. Overall it’s short and not a difficult trek and the best part is only a few people know about the Khopra Danda Trek.
Khopra Danda trek is a newly opened route in the Annapurna region that takes us on off beaten trails with amazing views of everything that Nepal has to offer. The amazing panorama includes awe-striking mountains such as Mt. Dhaulagiri, Annapurna (I, II, III, and south), Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhre, Lamjung Himal and Nilgiri scenes along with rural villages, and rice fields. We pass through the Rhododendron forest and meet Himalayan wildlife like Pheasants and Yaks. The trek also takes us to the sacred and beautiful Khayar Lake at the foot of Annapurna South. Khopra Danda trek also leads to Ghorepani Poon Hill where you get the best sunrise views over the massive Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Hiunchuli, and Machhapuchhre from the top of Poon Hill (3,210m). The trek on off beaten rarely trails present you with a new and exciting experience and take you to pretty villages and farmland at Ghandrung. The trail descends through pastoral villages to Tatopani and also takes you to the local Cheese factory at Paudwar.
Our journey begins with a scenic ride from Kathmandu to Pokhara then trek through the vibrant Gurung of Ghandruk. The trail continues to follow to Tadapani and then on the off beaten trail to Bayali which goes through a thick forest of rhododendron oak and pine. The trail then leads us closer towards Annapurna South to Khopra Danda where we can observe panoramic scenes of the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna range. Then the trailing trail turns around down to Swanta and up to Ghorepani through Bayeli Kharka. The trek goes through Tadapani and hikes to Poonhill for the popular sunrise and panoramic view and finally ends at Pokhara. The best time to go on this trek is from Feb to June, and Sept to Dec.
