Introduction

The Everest Base Camp Short Trek takes you to the backyard of the Sherpas – Namche Bazaar, Sagarmatha National Park, and Kala Patthar. Mt. Everest has traditionally been the ultimate goal for mountaineers who want to accomplish when they come to Nepal.

This trek passes through Sherpa town, where trekkers acclimatize and admire the lifestyle and hospitality of the locals.

You can observe breathtaking and mesmerizing spectacles of Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Makalu, Cho-Oyu, and many other tall peaks. The biodiversity of the Sagarmatha National Park is especially attractive.

Furthermore, you will arrive at Tengboche Monastery, the highest monastery in the Khumbu region of Nepal. Please familiarize yourself with the inhabitants of Sherpa communities and their culture and lifestyles.

Witness the beauty of Mt. Everest (8,848 m), Mt. Lhotse (8,516 m), Mt. Makalu (8,463 m) and Cho Yu (8,201 m) on this trek. You can observe amazing wildlife like snow leopards, musk deer, and the Himalayan Monal.

The stunning Khumbu Glacier and panoramic Kala Pathar (5,555m) will give a mesmerizing and memorable experience. This trek takes you to the world’s highest airport in Syanboche.

We start our hike to the Everest base camp with a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, equipped with all the necessary permits and trekking gear. The Everest Base Camp Short Trek is full of challenges, excitement, and beauty.

The best time to go on this trek is Autumn (Sep-Oct-Nov) and Spring (March-April-May). This trek is moderate, which takes you to an elevation of 5364 meters.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300 m)

Our professional staff member will meet you when you arrive at Tribhuwan International Airport and drive you to the hotel. At the hotel, you will check in, get ready, and rest. Spend the night in Kathmandu.

Day 2: Kathmandu Sightseeing

You will experience the world heritage monuments of Durbar Square, Pashupatinath Temple, Swayambhunath Stupa, and Bouddhanath Stupa.

Durbar Square provides insight into ancient royalty. For all Hindus, the Pashupatinath Temple is one of the most important pilgrimage sites.

One of the biggest stupas in the world is found in Swayambhunath, the Monkey Temple, and Baudhanath Stupa.

At lunchtime, you meet the other participants and talk about the Everest Base Camp Trek at our office. Spend the night in Kathmandu.

Day 3: Flight to Lukla (2,850 m) 40 minutes, and Trek to Phakding (2650 m) 3 hours

The trek starts with an early scenic mountain flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. The scenery includes hills covered with forest, waterfalls and rivers, as well as clouds moving through the sky.

As soon as you step on Lukla, you will have your first glimpse of sky-touching snow-capped mountains.

We trek north from Lukla to the beautiful village of Phakding. It resides at 2,700 m on the Dudh Koshi river valley. Overnight at Phakding Hotel/lodge.

Day 4: Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m) from Phakding - 6 hours

After breakfast, the trek begins at Namche Bazaar, one of Nepal’s biggest Sherpa villages. The trail takes you over the Dudhkoshi River via a long suspension bridge and then through a beautiful pine forest to Manju, about two hours away.

As we move ahead, we will approach the entrance to Sagarmatha National Park for a brief permit check and then descend to the Dudh Koshi River en route to Jorasalle.

We will have lunch here, and then it’s uphill to Namche. Your path along the riverbank is flanked by two crossings, one of which is the Hillary Suspension Bridge.

You’ll be rewarded with your first glimpse of Everest in its majesty in Namche Bazaar. Overnight in Namche Bazaar.

Day 5: Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (3,855 m) - 5 hours

Breathtaking panoramas of the Himalayas, such as Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and Kwangde, are some of the highlights that you cannot miss.

As we descend, the trail takes us to the riverside, and then it’s across the river upwards through the forest pass.

On a continuous uphill trek, the trail shifts between a gradual grade and some seriously steep ground until you reach Tengboche, one of the most beautiful places in the Everest region.

We’ll stop in on the Tengboche monastery, one of the largest in the Khumbu region, where you can observe chanting and prayer with the resident Buddhist monks. Overnight in Tengboche.

Day 6: Tengboche to Dingboche (4,360 m) - 5 hours

The trail goes through the rhododendron forest to Debouche, followed by a bridge over the Imja Khola River.

You’ll pass the valley wall and then cross the plains to Pangboche village, where you can enjoy a great opportunity to observe a typical Sherpa village.

You can also hike to the Pangboche monastery, one of the oldest in the area. The trail will be difficult as we move ahead, as the landscape gives way to dry and deserted mountains, and you hike towards Dingboche. Overnight in Dingboche.

Day 7: Dingboche to Lobuche (4,930 m) - 5 hours

Due to the higher altitude from Dingboche, the journey will progress more gradually and be harder.

The memorial stupas honouring the climbers and hikers who perished on Everest over the years can be found along the trail.

The trail continues through more difficult Himalayan terrain to Lobuche, a small town with breathtaking views of Mounts Lobuche, Pumori, and the Nuptse. We are currently over 4800 meters above sea level so the evenings can get quite frigid. Spend the night at Lobuche.

Day 8: Lobuche to Everest Base Camp and back (5,364 m) to Gorak Shep (5,185 m) - 6-8 hours

The trail starts with an initial, relatively easy trek from Lobuche to Gorek Shep. But the straight trail to Everest Base Camp is harder, involving rocky hills and moraine, formed accumulation of unconsolidated glacial rubble.

On the way, you will approach the Khumbu Glacier and icefall located on the slopes of Everest. At the Base Camp, you can observe unbelievable scenes of breathtaking beauty.

After some time, we’ll head back to Gorekshep for much-needed relaxation after an exhausting and busy day. Overnight in Gorak Shep.

Day 9: Hike to Kala Patthar (5,555 m) viewpoint, trek to Day Gorak Shep to Pheriche (4,250 m) - 5 hours

Today we trek towards Kalapathar for an enthusiastic and magnificent sunrise over Mt. Everest. You can observe a spectacular view of Nuptse Cholatse, Lhotse, Everest, and its neighbouring peaks.

Then we go back to Gorekshep for breakfast and trek back to Pheriche. Your step will be much quicker as you descend, and walking is easier this way. Spend the night in Pheriche.

Day 10: Pheriche to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m) - 6-7 hrs

The walk from Pheriche back to Tengboche is mostly downhill. We descend towards the suspension bridge over the Imja River, a slight climb over Tengboche, crossing the alluring rhododendron, oaks, junipers, and suspension bridges.

We’ll be in Namche Bazaar by late afternoon and off to bed before our last day on the mountain. Overnight at Namche Bazaar.

Day 11: Namche Bazaar to Lukla (2,850 m) - 6-7 hrs

You trek via the Hillary Suspension Bridge and then pass through numerous local villages. We must descend a steep pathway, cross multiple bridges over the Dudh Kosi river and reach the Phakding village.

We reach the Lukla after a few more walks across the Sagarmatha National Park. Overnight at Lukla.

Day 12: Fly back to Kathmandu from Lukla

On this day, we will fly to Kathmandu early in the morning. We will then accompany you to our hotel in Kathmandu after that. You can spend any spare time during the day exploring Kathmandu. Spend the night in a hotel.
