Mardi Himal Trek – 11 Days

  • 2 or 2+
  • Duration 11 Days

Introduction

Mardi Himal Trek is a relatively easier trekking route, situated in the Annapurna region. It is one of the less crowded treks in Nepal, though gaining popularity these days. The trek is a box full of surprises, as it provides a scenic and remarkable experience of the mountainous environment. A Panorama of green hills, snowcapped mountains, and walks along the primitive forests of beautiful rhododendrons and oak. The trail witnesses a spectacle of the Annapurna mountain ranges, Dhaulagiri, Mt. Machhapuchhre, and Manaslu.

Mardi Himal Trek takes you to wonderful and remote villages like Siding, where you can observe the way of life, culture, customs, and local ethnic groups, particularly the Gurung community. This trek rewards you with an unspoiled cultural and traditional experience.

You can observe exotic flora and fauna varieties such as Rhododendrons, magnolia, pine, and oak timberland along the trekking trail. Mardi Himal Trek is extremely viewed as an ‘Eco-Tourism course’ in the Annapurna district. It is a truly and moderately calm, short, and unspoiled trek in the Annapurna region. You will feel refreshed and amazed by the greenery, vegetation, and terraced farms along with the trek route.

Our final destination in Mardi Himal offers scenes of different mountains, forests, valleys, waterfalls, and many more. Mardi Himal Trek commences from Pokhara, where we took a ride to Kande and then trek to Pothana or Deurali. Then we move towards High Camp via. Low Camp, and finally reach our destination Mardi Himal Base Camp. After the wonderful experience in base camp, we descend to Sidding. We trek down to Sidding and then Mardi River basin from where we drive back to Pokhara by local /private vehicle (jeep, car, van, bus, etc.) provided by the company.

Day 4: DRIVE TO KANDE AND TREK TO DEURALI (2,232 m)

After breakfast, drive for about 40 minutes to Kande on Pokhara Baglung highway. The trail climbs for about one and a half hrs. to the ridge at 2,060 m. As you move ahead, you will reach an area in the forest with lodge settlement which is known as ‘Australian camp’. The place is scenic with a panoramic view of the Annapurna range and Pokhara valley. The trail farther winds through the rhododendron forest to Deurali. Deurali is viewing into the Modi Khola valley stuffed between Annapurna South and Mardi Himal / Mt Fishtail.

Day 5: DEURALI - FOREST CAMP (2,600 m / 5 hrs.)

We go off the main Annapurna trekking trail and follow the forested ridge to Forest camp after spending the beautiful morning in the ridge-top village of Deurali. Since this is a new trekking destination, there are no tea-houses along the way and we need to carry pack lunch and sufficient water. The day’s walk in the dense rhododendron forest is beautiful with continuous uphill.

Day 6: FOREST CAMP - LOW CAMP (3 Hrs. / 2,950 m)

The trail steadily ascends through the rhododendron woods following the ridge. The low camp has got a couple of tea houses in the clearing of the forest. You can observe the breathtaking scene of Mt Fishtail and Mardi Himal up close. You find yourself closer to clear blue sky with a view of layers of Himalayan foothills and a sweeping valley towards the south. Note: You can trek 1 more hr. to Badal Danda (Cloud Hill) above the tree line in the consent of a guide for a better view. There is only one lodge in Badal Danda.

Day 7: LOW CAMP - HIGH CAMP (3 HRS / 3,550 m)

The trail further ascends along the hill towards Mardi Himal and Mt Fishtail. From Badal Danda, we leave the tree line and arrive in the shrubby alpine zone. Snowcapped peaks of Annapurna South, Huinchuli and Fishtail rise in a distance over the deep valley on either side. High camp is a small meadow where you find yourself above the clouds and closer to snow-capped peaks.

Day 8: HIKE TO MARDI HIMAL BASE CAMP - LOW CAMP (7 Hrs. / 4,500 m)

The day trip is more difficult than other days with a steep climb and longer walk. The trail becomes more turning at some spots with rugged and steep rocky trails. The first sheer ascent will take about 2 hrs. to the moraine top which is regarded as MBC (Mardi Himal Base Camp). However, the real base camp will take about two hrs. more along the ridge. The view is amazing all along the ridge. While Mardi Himal and Mt Fishtail appear right above us, view of Annapurna I, Gangapurna and Annapurna III also appear at a distance. We come back to High camp for lunch then move back to Middle Camp or Low Camp.

Day 9: LOW CAMP TO POKHARA (7 Hrs. / 1,750 m)

On the way back we take another route. As we reach Low Camp, there is a trail that goes down to Siding village. Then trek down to Lumre. Afterward we will drive back to Pokhara. Overnight stay at hotel in Pokhara.

Day 10: Pokhara to Kathmandu by tourist bus or flight.

To return to Kathmandu, you can take either take a 30-minute flight to Kathmandu or a 7-8 hour bus long drive. You will witness amazing landscapes either way. Our family had an incredible time completing this once in a lifetime opportunity through Attractive Travels and Tours. The trek was well-paced, the experience diverse, and we found the guides incredibly responsive to our every need. Prakash and Jeevan went out of their way to ensure a safe and comfortable experience. They were kind, thoughtful and competent. We cannot thank them enough for all they did for us- and we wish them every success into the future.
